At a glance
- The manual documents up to 0.6 mm for thick paper at the rear.
- This limit applies to that path, not every cassette.
- Dye photo inks alone do not validate media feeding.
A published thickness limit
The current XP-8700 manual identifies a rear feed for thick paper up to 0.6 mm. Convert the paper thickness to millimetres to compare it: 375 µm is 0.375 mm.
This is a specification comparison. Also observe this feed’s size and loading requirements. A reseller weight figure retains its separate origin and does not replace the manual.
Dye inks, followed by a coating check
This model’s Claria Photo HD photo inks are dye-based. This meets the ink-type requirement of a dye-only coating but does not guarantee absorption at every ink load or driver quality setting.
On glossy media, inspect solid areas, fine letters and roller marks particularly carefully. If a product has no published thickness, the 0.6 mm limit is not enough to conclude that it will feed.
Follow the loading order
Use Epson’s procedure for the rear feed; do not transfer loading steps from another EcoTank or Expression Photo. Start with a simple document and record the driver media type.
- Check dimensions, thickness and printing face.
- Follow the manual’s rear-loading instructions.
- Print one sheet, let it dry and inspect both edges.
- Validate the back manually when the media restrictions require it.

Documented feed paths
Ink system: dye-based photo inks.
Rear feed slot, one sheet
Epson's manual allows media up to 0.6 mm through the rear slot. This is a mechanical limit, not a test of our paper.
Questions about this guide
Is the maximum thickness unknown?
Not for this feed: Epson’s manual publishes 0.6 mm at the rear. That figure is not a printing guarantee for every third-party media.
Does dye ink guarantee the result on Gloss?
It meets the required ink type. Feeding, absorption, drying and settings still need separate checks.
