At a glance

  • A gentle satin sheen on both faces.
  • A coating designed for dye and pigment inks.
  • Sheet feeding must be checked separately from ink compatibility.

A satin finish between matte and gloss

Luster gives a gentle sheen without the mirror effect of a strongly glossy paper. Its appearance changes with the light angle: compare sheets under your playing light, tilting them in the same way.

Both faces are satin and printable. Surface and core are separate features: Black Core describes the black middle layer of the sheet, not its sheen.

Choose by finish and ink

Luster is an option when you want more sheen than matte with the same finish on the front and back. Compare it with Semi-Gloss and Gloss using accepted ink as well as shine.

Its coating accepts dye and pigment inks according to its product specification. This avoids the restriction of dye-only papers, but does not guarantee feeding or the result of a particular driver setting.

Validate a first sheet

Compare the current Luster specifications with the limits of your model’s paper path. A limit stated for the manufacturer’s photo paper does not validate every paper of the same weight.

  1. Check scale and orientation on plain paper first.
  2. Load one sheet through the path permitted for that media.
  3. Let the front dry before turning it over; check a waste area for ink transfer.
  4. Record driver media type and quality before starting a batch.

Questions about this guide

Are Luster and Semi-Gloss the same?

No. Their appearance, core and accepted inks differ. Check each product’s specifications before substituting one for the other.

Can I print the back immediately?

Wait until the first face is dry and no longer transfers ink. No single drying time is validated here for every ink and setting.
