At a glance

  • Canon distinguishes plain paper from supported photo papers.
  • The published photo-paper figure does not guarantee third-party cardstock.
  • The inks are dye-based; prepare double-sided printing manually.

Read the media category

Canon’s specifications distinguish a plain-paper range from supported photo papers, with a photo-paper maximum of approximately 275 g/m² in the cited sheet. These figures do not generally validate heavier third-party cardstock.

Do not describe this printer as having no weight information at all. The useful question is whether the document covers the specific media you intend to use, with its thickness and coating.

Six dye inks, a separate limit

The G650 uses six dye inks. This ink type can meet a dye-only coating’s requirement but does not change the rear feeder’s mechanical constraints.

Do not extend a G650 specification to a nearby model either. Commercial aliases need documentation checks; a similar name does not prove that the same paths and limits apply.

Decide before loading

If your media exceeds an applicable published limit or falls outside covered media, do not turn a possible successful feed into a general recommendation. Consult Canon’s restrictions and choose documented media or a suitable different model.

  1. Identify the exact paper and its category.
  2. Compare rear-feeder limits before printing.
  3. Check turning orientation on plain paper.
  4. For permitted media, let it dry before manually reinserting the back.

Documented feed paths

Ink system: dye-based photo inks.

Rear tray

Canon lists about 275 g/m² for photo paper, or supported Canon media. Its 64–105 g/m² plain-paper range does not validate cardstock. This sheet gives no thickness ceiling.

Questions about this guide

Do photo inks validate 300 gsm cardstock?

No. Ink type and media limits are separate checks. Canon’s specification does not guarantee every third-party media of that weight.

Can I automatically use another G-series model’s specification?

No. Confirm the exact model and applicable documents before transferring limits.

Manufacturer limits apply to the media and feed paths stated in each document. A documentary match is not a physical test of our cardstock.
